the world of kate
Kate has forged a multifaceted career as a model, business woman and charity ambassador. Born in iconic Manly and raised in the laid back lifestyle of Darwin with her twin brother Adam, Kate is the quintessential Aussie – with a southern girl’s love of the ocean and a Territory girl’s hunger for the bush.
With a Bachelor Degree of Visual Arts majoring in Digital Media and an Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design majoring in Business Management, Kate established her design consultancy business and took her talents to Washington DC and London during 2005 & 2006. Her business achievements abroad include collaborations with Ted Baker, Wayne Rooney, Electronic Arts/The GodFather and Nike; with private enterprise, military and not-for-profit’s making her portfolio complete on home soil.
Kate’s career path expanded to modeling when she was discovered in 2007 and she has since gained further exposure representing in numerous advertising campaigns, runway productions and television commercials. Kate’s client portfolio includes BrasNThings, David Jones, Ben Sherman, Underwear of Sweden, Rebel Sport and St Frock, with fashion & lifestyle features in Vogue Australia, Cosmopolitan Brides, Resident, and NAFA Magazine to name a few.
Whilst Kate has always enjoyed the glitz and glamour associated with the fashion industry, she identifies highlights in her life far from the makeup chair. Kate was awarded a gliding scholarship through the Australian Air Force Cadets and learnt to fly on her 18th birthday (and later pursued scuba diving as a more practical hobby to alleviate motion sickness). The ‘travel bug’ took hold shortly after qualifying in Dili, East Timor in her final year of High School, and she has since touched down in over 40 countries for both work and pleasure.
Described by her peers for being down-to-earth, talented and professional; Kate is highly motivated and always brings a natural sense of style & sophistication to every assignment.
Her drive to create ‘Chic Nation’ was born from a desire to help her ’15 year old self’ and aims to indulge her readers into the backstage world of the model industry; tackling self esteem and body confidence issues through her own life experiences, and provide tips & tricks to help her readers lead a happy & healthy lifestyle.
Kate is currently based in Sydney with Leo & Maya, her beloved Boxer and petite Chihuahua; combining her distinguished business and model careers with her love for travel and compassion for those in need.

Kate is a passionate advocate for those causes that touch her heart. She was exposed to the importance of helping others from the age of nine when her mother was in a car accident that left her a quadriplegic and unable to do the day-to-day activities most take for granted. Seeing her mother go through years of rehabilitation, Kate saw her slowly but confidently become ‘at peace’ with her condition, and quickly joined her in various disability advocacy initiatives to combat the stereotypes associated with a physical disability.
With such an independent woman and devoted father as role models, Kate took advantage of the strong sense of community and work ethic she inherited from her parents. She has since thrown herself into various charitable causes by financial support, volunteering her time or professional expertise, or lending her profile to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Cancer Council, RSPCA, Taronga Zoo, Ovarian Cancer Australia, and more recently the Touch of Goodness Foundation.
Kate became affiliated with Ovarian Cancer Australia when her Aunt, Cheryl Riha, was diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer in 2008. Not having a clue what ovarian cancer was, and seeing how aggressively the cancer took Cheryl’s life, Kate instigated her own campaign in bringing awareness to the silent killer that claims the life of one Australian women every 11 hours. In 2012 Kate was honoured to become a National Community Ambassador for the organisation and today helps to bring awareness to the early signs and symptoms of the disease that has no early detection test or cure.
“Every woman needs to know the symptoms of ovarian cancer. Make sure you do.”
The four most common symptoms of ovarian cancer include:
- Abdominal or pelvic pain
- Increased abdominal size or persistent abdominal bloating
- Needing to urinate often or urgently
- Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly
